Gua Sha Traditional Chinese massage tool - Jade, Rose Quartz or Comb

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique of scraping and massaging the skin to improve blood circulation. It was believed that gua sha released unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas. The scraping, smoothing and massaging action would stimulate oxygenated blood flow to the areas, promoting metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery.

Our Gua sha tools come in Rose Quartz or Jade and can be used as part of an everyday facial skincare ritual to improve the tone and texture of the complexion leaving your skin looking fresher, plumper and more glowing. It also feels amazing because the stones are beautifully smooth and cooling. Ideal for reducing the appearance of tired or puffy eyes, the massage action can help improve lymph flow away from the face supporting the elimination of toxins for a more radiant complexion.

How to Gua Sha

Make sure your skin is cleansed- try a hot cloth cleanse with Sacred Balm followed by a spritz of an Organic Aromatic Floral Water. Then moisturise well with a serum or oil; you want to provide enough slip to be able to glide the Gua Sha tool over the face without dragging.

Sculpting: Hold the tool at about 15 degrees near the edge of the nose and the corner of the eye. With light to medium pressure, slowly draw the tool from the centre of your face outwards and slightly upwards. Carry on with these strokes along the cheek moving a little further down each time until you reach the jaw line.

Contouring: Once at the jaw line, work from the chin to the ear and when at the top of the jaw, rock the tool slightly back and forth as this is where toxins can accumulate and draw down the neck to help disperse.

Lifting: The neck needs an upward action so again, starting at the centre and at the base of the neck, stroke upwards to the chin and continue moving along to the right, and then from the centre to the left. You can also help to lift the brows by starting from the inner eye and moving outwards along the brow line.

Smoothing: Draw the tool from the centre of the forehead above the brows and out to the hairline.

Rose quartz is usually associated with love and nurturing and Jade with purifying and harmony. The colours pink and green are both related to the heart chakra. Whichever colour appeals to you most is the right one - or try both!

Please note: These tools are made from natural materials and size and shape may differ.
